Just a small curiosity brought on by your last writing with Selidor but, how does he feel about insects?
Selidor has a kind of love/hate relationship with insects (and arachnids). They’re one of the few things that can bring out something purposefully malicious out of him. Rather than his usual accidental maliciousness.
I think one of the best examples of this is his interactions with his pet “spider,” Ragno. There was a mission in which they fought these giant, spider-like monsters that were kind of covered head to toe with legs. After they fought them off, Selidor pulled off two of the giant legs and shoved them in the vent he uses to hoard all of his favorite objects.
Eventually that had repercussions and the vent started smelling like, as you might expect, rotten arachnid-like space meat. Before the rest of the crew could get after him, they were again attacked by these monsters and, somehow during the course of the fight, Selidor ended up with a baby one about the size of a tennis ball. He protected it from both its own kind and his other crew mates, and it enhanced his willpower abilities like crazy which, of course, he loved. After the fight was done and they got rid of the foul smelling legs, Selidor somehow convinced them to let him keep the babby spider which he called Ragno.
Part of him loves Ragno, and the power that Ragno gives him, and the other part of him dislikes it and the responsibility that is required of him to take care of Ragno. He also hates how weak the spider-like creature is sometimes. He will often pull off Ragno’s legs for sport, and Ragno has yet to actually dislike that. I think he’s also kicked him several times, thrown him, tried to crush him, etc.
As of the present in the MOAG universe, Ragno has been left in Selidor’s seedy apartment back on the space station, Koge, and has apparently been forgotten for several months. It is unclear of whether it is dying or whether it has found its own source of food. When Selidor last saw it, it was the size of a cantaloupe.
And then there are other things, like the ormigites who are a playable species in MOAG and are bug-like, who he treats disrespectfully because they’re smaller and he considers them weaker (even though I’m sure any given ormigite could probably kick his trash) but he doesn’t actually hate them or anything.
I should also note that bugs feature a prominent part in many of Selidor’s hallucinations.
Thank you for the question!
