Do you think you could talk about Lord October a bit? You sketched him a while back but I DON'T REALLY KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING ABOUT HIM (other than what was obvious, really). His designs really neat, though, so I was wondering if you could talk about how he got that way or why he is that way? Friends or family ties? That sort've thing? I guess you probably don't use/think of him very often, though, so if you don't want to that's TOTALLY FINE.
Yeah, he got put in the unused/whoops-I-made-a-stupid-character-again closet, so I don’t really think of him at all, but I don’t mind talking about him. Just know that, yeah, I haven’t worked on him at all in years so if there’s anything really stupid, I’m sorry.
Lord October is something of a golem or magical construct. But not made of clay or of the earth. The one who made him made him of dead (mostly) human body parts and clockwork.
So he’s like a necromantic Frankenstein.
The dude who made him (I don’t think there was actually a character behind it other than I acknowledged the fact that SOMEONE had to make him, so I don’t know if this dude was a woman or man or a scientist or sorcerer or anything) knew that this kind of blending between magic and technology had not yet been explored, so he made the Gates of Eve which made it easier to open up Lord October and check on is innards. The Gates of Eve are the corset-like ribs on the outside of October’s body that open up like cabinet doors so you can mess around with the inside of him. They were named after the whole God-took-a-rib-from-Adam-to-make-Eve idea.
Lord October was made to be a super soldier (of the magical world) of sorts and to lead this army of monsters and half-baked experiments like him. He was strong and smart, but didn’t have very good endurance. He fell apart easily and couldn’t keep working for long periods of time.
Personality-wise, I can’t remember all that much, but I think he hated humans for the fact that he had to serve them and rely on them, but was a little conflicted since he was made up of humans. A lot of humans. He wanted to think he was better than them, and often came off as looking like he thought of himself higher than everyone, but in reality felt like garbage. Something made up of the humans that were worthless and unneeded, and thus was worthless and unneeded himself.
I think one of the coolest things about him, other than the Gates of Eve and that he’s my only character to use a whip for a weapon, was his voice. The majority of his body was made up of human body parts, with the exception of his throat. His throat, and the voice box and vocal chords within, was cut from a siren, so he had an ability of lulling others and attracting them to come to him. I did like that about him.
I’m pretty sure that he was made as a bad guy in my character Junus’ story, but he really doesn’t fit that world any more, nor in any other story of mine, which is why he’s kind of floating around without any purpose and isn’t used anymore.
