letsly asked:

give me the sept* and matthias* facts too OoO

*Ceibt manages to survive from Riord’s time (pre-medieval ages, I think?) to the present day. She’s since lost her massive skull helm in place for a business suit. She makes A.I.s now.

*Matthias survives to at least his twenties. He’s heartbroken when he finds out a girl he liked is in a short fling with Jesse. He never actually gets a girlfriend nor gets married.

vadum asked:

hhi phantom. i searched through everything and i still can't find anything on this, which is weird because i had a really strong feeling that this has been asked before. oh well. anyways, do any of your characters believe in ghosts or supernatural beings? (either related or unrelated to any faith) and would any of them actually seek to communicate with them or summon such entities? or do things like 'ghost hunting'.

HEEEEY SEXY!

There was once an ask that involved the Grimms and Fantomes and Abstrials and Phanlockes who are all these interlocking families who have a lot to do with the paranormal, especially ghosts, but I don’t recall if there was ever a specific ask on that. And if that was the specific ask, it was like one of the first CSS questions I ever answered, so you know, it’s been awhile and I’m fine with answering again.

Anyway!

Quite a few of my characters have belief in ghosts and supernatural beings. Some of the most prominent are those families I mentioned above.

The Fantome family, which is just down to just Celdiere and her younger brother Arcaterxes, in particular are surrounded by the supernatural. They live in a haunted house, their uncles are vampires (one of which lives with them), there are ghosts and doppelgangers and werewolves and demons somehow involved in their property and even though they don’t always know what the supernatural things are, they’ve seen enough to believe that these things do exist and aren’t some hoax or coincidence.

Then there’s the above mentioned vampire uncles who are the last of the Abstrial line, Anon and Mercutious. They actually haven’t seen much of the paranormal happenings in the Fantome house, but being supernatural themselves has given them a belief that other supernatural things can exist as well. I should note that Mercutious is entertaining the idea that maybe what they are is caused by something scientific and not something unexplainable.

Then there’s the Phanlockes (cousins of the Fantomes), who have all died out now. There were five generations, the only before mentioned characters of this family being Obsidian and Jayce, of individuals who were involved with the supernatural. Two of which were monster hunters and three who were paranormal investigators.

And last but not least of these interwoven families is the last of the Grimms, Montague. Montague’s just a teen, currently homeless, and has the ability to see spirits and ghosts. I’m mentioning him because he is apart of this family, but I should note that he doesn’t actually believe in the supernatural and is under the assumption that he’s just crazy.

Some other characters include:

Davide, who believed in demons enough to summon Jesse at the least.

Isabeau, who not only attempted to bind Jesse to her, but also had a… knack, you could say, to find demons and to manipulate them. In her last years she became paranoid and thought that there were spirits surrounding her everywhere she went.

Saint George, who had a bad run-in with some kind of demon and now fights the supernatural for the SAFETY OF HUMANITY.

Matthias, who has the same abilities and skills as his mother. He also attempts to summon a demon for certain knowledge and he is, in fact, successful. But the situation scares (and perhaps scars) him so much that he’s wary to try it again. It should be noted that he believes in angels, demons, and ghosts- but doesn’t believe in a God.

Jesse believes that the most reasonable explanation is the most likely, but that there are often things that can’t be explained. Or might not be explained now, but will be in the future. In other words, he thinks that anything can be possible. But not that the supernatural is hiding around every corner or anything like that.

And then not related to the world that all of those above characters exist in:

Commodore Septimus believes in spirits. She thinks there’s good and bad spirits and that sometimes they walk around like people and that they have their own agendas most the time and shouldn’t be trusted.

Selidor believes in ghosts. No real reason why, he just does.

Oh, and last character of note is James/Jellybean who DOESN’T believe in ghosts or the supernatural DESPITE having the ghostly figure of Haedyn following him around in space.

Whelp that was a lot. I hope that kind of answered your question. And thanks for asking it!

letsly asked:

This may have been asked but could you tell us about Jesse and Matthias' relationship?

THAT DEPENDS.

HOW MUCH DO YOU MIND SACROSANCT SPOILERS.

Nah, I just won’t talk about them much. In the short terms, Jesse is a mix of protective and slightly loathing towards Matthias. And Matthias thinks Jesse is a huge jerk and kind of creepy as balls. And by ‘kind of’ I mean ‘really’. Although Jesse is almost apathetically happy to work with Matthias and his friend Joshuel, Matthias begrudges the fact that they’re relying on Jesse and he thinks that he’s something unpredictable and uncontrollable. A factor he’d prefer to take out of the equation. He already has enough to deal with on his plate besides some adult with a sleazy smile.

sigishooter asked:

DANG IT! Anyway I'd given an actual headcanon that Matthias has a specific order of always placing everything on his desk at school. (and if anything disrupts this order HE FLIPS A TABLE IN HIS MIND)

Yeah, that is pretty much canon! I don’t think he’d flip a table but having things organized and straight is pretty important to him. If I’m able to continue Sacrosanct, you’ll be able to see that.

vadum asked:

I don't know if you've answered a question like this but I can't find anything like it soooo, (i think all of my questions start with this disclaimer I'M SORRY) have your characters ever done drugs? Even if they've tried it once. If they haven't, have they ever had some sort of curiosity towards them? Or are they against them for any reason?

Jesse tries drugs all the time. For the most part, if the drug is anything less than lethal, then his body kind of negates the effects it should have (which means when he smokes he kind of just does it for the aesthetic value of it) and so it doesn’t have much point. But he does enjoy trying them, just to see.

I think Joshuel has tried minor smoking before, if not he will someday.

Viviel’s brother has a methamphetamine addiction.

Captain Helmut has been into chewing tobacco before, and may still do so.

Jascha is a chain smoker.

And that’s all I can think of, but I swear I have some more characters who smoke.

I think Matthias is really curious about smoking, especially since his friend Joshuel has done so before, but his Nana would MUUURDER HIM.

Interestingly enough, Gravedigger, the character Aly asked about recently, was really against drugs but I don’t remember why. Loch is also against them because he doesn’t want anything to ruin his PEEERFECT MIND.

vadum asked:

(I'm pretty sure someone asked you the instrument questions a long time ago but I can't find it? Well, feel free to ignore it if it has been asked.) Do you of your characters play instruments? Why do they play that instrument? Did they obtain the instrument in some specific way? Do any of them use it outside of a hobby? How do they feel about playing it?

I think I have answered one like this (but also couldn’t find it so MAYBE WE’RE GOIN CRAZY, VAL) but I don’t mind answering it again.

Despite having so much to do with music myself, I honestly don’t have many characters who are musicians.

Junus plays an aeol, which is a stringed instrument and has a sound that’s similar to a mix between a mandolin and a sitar and is noted for their usually elaborately carved heads and bodies.

Although instruments during Junus’ life were hand crafted by artisans, the aeol was commonly used by musicians during the time, despite its size pretty easy to tote around, and kind of the easiest to acquire.

In his youth, someone basically told Junus to get a f***ing hobby and he was like DUDE, I HAVE HOBBIES. I HAVE ALL THE HOBBIES. And they were like THE MILITARY ISN’T A HOBBY, DIPSTICK. I DON’T EVEN THINK YOU COULD GET A HOBBY. Okay, it didn’t really go about like that, but Junus had an acquaintance who played the aeol and to expand his experience he started borrowing it and figuring out how to play it. Turns out he rather liked it and eventually bought one for himself and continued playing it.

It is one of the few activities besides reading that can get him to relax. Because relaxing kind of freaks out Junus it instantly gives him something of a conflicted feeling; on one hand it IS relaxing, but on the other hand HE SHOULDN’T FEEL RELAXED AND IF HE’S RELAXED THEN HE SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING. So he kind of both enjoys it and gets anxious from it.

Matthias had to play the recorder for one year of school. He didn’t enjoy it, felt self-conscious and stupid while attempting to play it, and felt like it was a waste of time. He avoided practicing as much as he could and was grateful when he no longer had to play it.

Jesse plays the cello, sings, and sometimes tinkers around on the piano. He started singing during his time as Aureliano, serving as a slave for Davide. It was a way to pass the time while either working or being locked up; and he still often sings while working. The cello happened during the start of his third incarnation as Jesse. There isn’t a huge fantastic story behind this; basically he was like, “Whelp, if I’m going to be a free immortal for the rest of eternity, I ought to have something to do.” And so he decided to pick an instrument. The cello was the biggest instrument he could find that would sit between his legs, which he thought to himself was gloriously hilarious, so he started taking lessons and figured out how to use it. He played it often during this time and became pretty darn good with it, but his interest waned. In the present day he is incredibly rusty and rarely touches the cello, but if you get him in the right mood and ask real nicely he might play you a song. He’s not particularly good with the piano, but there was a time when one of his sons took up piano for a class and Jesse did all that he could to help him and picked up a few things. Basically, he knows how to read piano music and knows where to put his fingers on the keys. he’s not skilled with this. Singing relaxes him, and he often enjoyed the attention he got while playing the cello- but now it just makes him embarrassed since he knows he used to be good but kind of isn’t now.

There’s also The Music Room Ghost/Musically Inclined Ghost/Antonin Dvorak who was a character in a story I wanted to do a long time ago called Fantome Fantastique. The ghost couldn’t speak, or perhaps just refused to speak, but was a composer and musician before his death. After which he often haunted the music room of Le Manoir Des Fantomes and would play many of the various instruments- most often the violin and piano. He was later referred to as Antonin Dvorak after the famous composer whose songs he would often play.

And then my fantroll, Endell, is musically inclined- but right now all I know is that they sometimes sing and whistle. I’m thinking about them using an electronic keyboard though.

Oh, and I don’t know if anyone knows of my character Gravedigger (this is like the only picture I have of her), but she kind of inherited this massive pipe organ from her late husband (and it had been in his family forever) and learned how to play it after his death to feel closer to him.

Thank you for the question, Val!

vadum asked:

What do Jesse, Garro, Junus, Gallowglass, Matthias, and anyone else that you'd like to include think of body modifications? This can be anything like tattoos and piercings to subdermal implants (like horns, or other implants, like breast implants), branding, scarification, and beyond.

p.Jesse tends to find a lot of beauty in things in general. For body modifications that are meant to make a person “more beautiful,” (all I can think of for this is things like face lifts or breast surgery and such) he doesn’t understand and would probably try to talk a person out of it. His regenerative capabilities prevent him from getting things like tattoos, piercings, scarification, etc. but he does find people’s connections to these things they get fascinating and thinks it can be an important part of finding one’s own identity. Branding would make him uncomfortable for a past experience or two, but he wouldn’t mind it on others who chose to get it.

Older designs of Garro actually had tattoos but THEN I WAS LAAAAZY AND NEVER DREW THEM AGAIN. With the crew he was raised with, tattoos and piercings were important. They told stories about the individuals and often marked some kind of success or mile-marker. So modifications like that are things that he has something of respect for. If he came across someone with scarification or subdermal implants he’d probably be like DEAR GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, WEIRDO.

Junus come across much more than piercings or tattoos, but his opinion in general that getting body alteration or modification is wasting time. Other than that, he doesn’t have a big opinion on the subject.

Being addicted to self surgery and self modification, I would say that Gallowglass is both fascinated by it and likes it very much. His opinion towards it is a little unhealthy and obsessed, but he thinks the human body is imperfected and that perfection must be sought through alteration. Scarification would in particular fascinate him and he might one day attempt to give himself some designs based on scarification he’s seen.

For Matthias, he’s young enough and in a strict enough setting that getting body modifications is not an option. For him, any type of alteration is then related to rebellion and, by cause of that, is also related to being pretty cool.

musemint asked:

Gonna send this to several dudes: Your character[s] are suddenly in a PRETENTIOUS HIGH-FANTASY SETTING! What sort of archetypal role would they play? Feel free to answer with as little or as many of yo characters as you want.

Junus plays RUGGED WARRIOR HERO and Kyos plays SHAPESHIFTING TRICKSTER GOD- wait.

Okay, more serious.

Matthias would be a young hobbit, still naive and about to be put through horrible, horrible things that will forever change him. Plays the role of protagonist and somewhat reluctant hero.

Selidor would be a massive, muscly centaur that was driven crazy by an old, possessive witch. Plays the role of whacky side-kick who might kill you.

Speaking of such, Selidor’s mom would be an old, possessive witch.

p.Jesse would be kind of reversed from what he is now. He would have been a human that gained paranormal abilities and is now considered something more of a demon. Called a dark lord or such. Plays the role of trickster or antagonist.

Garro is a blacksmithing dwarf. Plays the role of dude who wants everyone to think he’s really tough but may indeed be a big old softie deep inside.

And Envi’ere is…. AN EEEELF. Plays the role of anti-hero.

Thanks for the question!

letsly asked:

Let's say that the world is ending. Like, some sort of apocalyptic event is coming to destroy the world, and it is coming within a few hours. Your character, immortal or not, will die in this event. They somehow have the knowledge that this their last moment, there is no afterlife, and so on. How does Garro, Jesse, Envi, Septimus, Gallowglass, Selidor, Matthias, Junus, and any others react to this? How do they spend their remaining time? Do they make peace with their death or?

If just a few hours remain, I don’t think many of my characters would be able to make peace with what’s about to happen. I think the two that would do the best would be Jesse and Matthias. Matthias would probably think that this figures, that his doubts of there being no afterlife are confirmed, and he’d probably either go comfort his Nana or he’d go off on his own to recall his life before he died. Jesse would be surprised that there’s no afterlife, and he’d try to help those around him and comfort them and try to make things right for people until the very end- but he’d honestly be a little relieved. This is an event that he finally won’t come back from and that he doesn’t have to feel guilty for.

Selidor wouldn’t comprehend what was happening and what was about to happen and wouldn’t act much differently.

Both Garro and Gallowglass would get angry. Gallowglass would become venomous to anyone around him, lashing out at them because he’s afraid of what’s about to happen, and blaming them because someone has to be the one to blame. There’s a chance that he might end his own life (something that wouldn’t be in character at any other time) before the event just to spite fate. Garro would also get angry, more angry that this is about to happen than fearful. He might try to tell some people things he’s never wanted to tell them before and he’d probably get to the nearest ocean because if he’s going to die like heck is it going to be on land.

Envi’ere would become reserved, and if possible, this would be one of the few things that would encourage her to go back to her family, if just for a little while. Chances are she’s too far away, so she might try to make some kind of trancom call to them. If able to contact them, I think she may make some kind of peace with her death.

Commodore Septimus would be fearful of that nonexistence. It would terrify her. But she’d push that aside for her crew and try to keep them together, strong, fearless, and calm until the end. That would give her purpose in her last moments despite her fear.

Junus would defy the parameters of the question and would somehow stop the event.

Thank you for the question!

letsly asked:

hi i know it isn't sunday yet but i wanted to ask everyone this question before i forgot. HOW DO JESSE, ENVI, GARRO, SEPTIMUS, MATTHIAS, ISABEAU, SELIDOR, HELMUT, JUNUS, AND DRYTZEIN HANDLE INTIMACY WITH OTHER PEOPLE? Either romantic or just getting close to people in general. Does it embarrass them? Do they enjoy it?

p.Jesse likes romance. He likes people, he likes intimacy. Most of this you could say he reacts to with flying colors. There are a few things he doesn’t deal with as well though; he doesn’t deal with long-term relationships quite as well as short ones, he gets antsy and snappish towards a partner in such a situation. He also gets uncomfortable when people try to do certain things, like trying to pry his past out of him or such. Besides those parts, romance and intimacy are some of his favorite things in the world. yes, he enjoys it.

Envi’ere likes her relationships quick, dirty, and then out of the way. She’s socially awkward when it comes to being romantic and is often paranoid when others are flirting or trying to get close to her. There’s no way people could actually do that without ulterior motives, right? So no, doesn’t enjoy it much.

Garro deals with these things with the same elegance and grace he does with everything else in life. That is to say he’s kind of like a hammer to a glass vase when it comes to relationships. He doesn’t like people, he’s blunt, insensitive, self-focused; and although he doesn’t mind intimacy that much (no more or less than anything else he deals with), he doesn’t deal too well with it and would rather avoid it.

Commodore Septimus is a little wary of people getting close and kind of fears judgement from others- especially in a relationship. But, besides that, likes being in relationships now and again and really enjoys flirting on any occasion. Whether or not it’s appropriate.

Matthias has just entered that stage where he notices girls, but he’s a scrawny, shy, and socially shunned boy so he doesn’t have much confidence when it comes to intimacy. If someone approached him with romantic intents he’d probably be shy, flustered, and largely skeptical.

Isabeau is deeeeead.

Selidor is actually both asexual and aromantic. Intimacy and romance confuse him and although it’s not like it scares or embarrasses him or anything like that, he is confused when advances are made towards him and he does not make advances towards others.

Captain Helmut feels as though he ought to be suave and smooth but he kind of isn’t and this ends up with him trying too hard when it comes to romance. He also doesn’t have much in way of experience with such, so he’s a little eager and naive when it comes down to it.

Junus takes what he wants with no real understanding of romance. The work of getting to know him is often left completely to his partner and it’s like trying to pull a tooth with one hand and solve a Rubik’s cube with the other. He doesn’t dislike romance and intimacy, he’s just not particularly good with it and his problems with communication transfer over in bucketfuls to his relationships.

Drytzein’s business is romance and intimacy, and he keeps it business. He’s cold and aloof when it comes to others trying to get close to him and he more or less thinks they’re idiots for trying.

Thanks for the question!
