Are any of your characters particularly artsy-fartsy?
That depends on how you mean “artsy-fartsy”.
I’ve got characters like Davide (technically the first person to have summoned Jesse) who, for the longest time before I decided on a name for him, was just known as the Artiste. Jesse, in fact, still thinks of him as that instead of by his name. He kind of thinks of him as the Artiste ironically. Davide was an artist by trade at least, an oil painter specifically, but didn’t really have… the spirit of an artist, I guess. He showed some artistic talent and he kind of got pushed into art school by his father and meandered along without ever gaining a passion for what he was doing. I saw a lot of people like that while I was a music major (in fact, I was kind of one of them) who didn’t particularly enjoy what they were doing, they were just sort of good at music and school and parents had just kind of set them on that path and they just stayed on it without ever finding the thing that made them transfer from just being-sort-of-good-at-music-things into being a musician. I’m sure you get some people like that in SCAD too, those who have the skills and knowledge of art, but aren’t really artists. Anyway, that part of Davide is kind of based on that idea, that he’s an artist without actually being an artist. So I’m not sure if that counts as artsy-fartsy.
There is Jascha who is kind of an unused character who was a nachzehrer. Nachzehrer’s are pretty awesome and you should look them up and find out exactly what they are, but just to give a quick idea: they’re sort of like German were-boar vampires. Jascha likes painting a whole lot, and was kind of the portrait of a penniless painter, but he uses a range of mediums. His style is kind of like… gothic-hipster-surrealism. Yeah, we’ll go with that.
Selidor likes drawing quite a bit, but his drawings are kind of like grade school level so I don’t know if he counts either.
Then there’s Jesse, who is one of the more artistic of my characters. He never really sticks with anything, besides his gardening and cooking, but he does have an eye for aesthetic values and artistic things. He likes writing poetry on occasion though he doesn’t like people to know this, and sometimes he takes up drawing or painting or sculpting for a bit, though he doesn’t stick with it long because his crippling self esteem usually kills his creative inclinations or he’s reminded of the dreaded Artiste. Is also musically inclined in some aspects.
Kind of related to Jesse, the Falsilitator is like the cliche troubled/tortured/arrogant/romantic poet all rolled up in one.
Junus whittles on very rare occasions. Also plays his aeol every once in awhile too.
And then there’s Kyos. Kyos is surprisingly (or perhaps just unbeknownst to most) pretty artistic. Junus still has a stack of ink drawings Kyos did which tend to start out as very realistic and detailed animals on one side of the paper and kind of just degrade into chaotic ink splatters and smears on the other side.
TAKE SOME OF YOUR CHARACTERS, or just one or whatever you want, and tell us what sorts of things disappoint them and why?
GONNA GO WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS I PUT UP ON MY CSS POST THIS MORNING AW YEAH.
Loch is disappointed in a lot of things, most of these things being other people. He’s disappointed that he was kicked out of his home because his family is stoopid, he’s disappointed that he was raised up in society by people and then they found out that he’s doing just a feeeew little experiments on individuals on the side and suddenly they shun him, and he’s really disappointed that no one’s smart enough to realize how genius he is and how amazing his inventions are.
Lomond is disappointed by his lack of thumbs. Every night he wishes on a star and every morning he wakes up and there are still no thumbs. Gorramit.
Endell has problems receiving the mail every once and awhile and they’re always disappointed by having to wait longer than anyone else for the newest issue of Troll Hunk Rump.
The Falsilitator is really disappointed by relationships. He has a different view of the quadrants than many trolls and he currently can’t find anyone who has similar views.
Gadasher, I don’t think is really disappointed by anything. Not yet at least. He’s currently a little too robot for that.
King Ghoul is disappointed by the lack of chickens in the desert.
Jesse is disappointed by himself, and occasionally by a few of the people in his past.
Viviel’s Brother has a deep dislike of people and society. It kind of gets under his skin and he’s disappointed by how they act, how they treat each other, just how they are. He’s disappointed by how few of people think like he and his sister.
Viviel is kind of disgruntled by how STUPID HER BROTHER IS SOMETIMES, GOD.
Would the Falsilitator try to seduce Endel and if so, what would happen?
I don’t think the Falsilitator particularly goes out of his way to seduce anyone. He just acts like his normal self (“Why would you act any differently when you’re this perfect?”) which is often perceived as flirtatious and if anyone else likes that, then they like that.
So, I guess that the answer to the first part of your question is ‘partially’. The Falsilitator certainly wouldn’t make any attempt not to be flirtatious around Endell. Endell, with all their current self esteem issues and fear of closeness with others, would be mortified by his remarks (that Falsi probably made without even thinking about their implications).
If the Falsilitator picked up on Endell’s embarrassment, he might play up on comments and actions to make them more uncomfortable, or he might mock them for being so naiveeeee and sheltered. If it got bad enough, Endell would just up and leave. I’m not sure what would happen after that.
Does Endell get as brutal as their ancestor when provoked? What are all the similarities the two share and contrast?
Yes. Or, rather, they can get as brutal.
Endell and the Falsilitator have many similarities; similar interests, similar pursuits, similar mastery over language- but something they contrast in is their ego.
The Falsilitator is arrogant and has massive amounts of pride, especially in what he does. This means he carries a lot of confidence over into his interactions with others and the way he acts and such.
Endell is not. Endell has little confidence in the things they create and they have little confidence in their interactions with others. This causes them to be withdrawn, to avoid being in public situations and avoid interacting, and to be slightly embarrassed with everything they’re interested in. This is why Endell (though this hasn’t come up in Investigatory or anything yet) doesn’t show anyone else they’re creations; and why, even though one of their favorite things ever are ghosts and ghost stories, they don’t want to actually admit that to anyone else in the group. And Endell is incredibly wary of showing anyone their hunk rump collection.
Because of that ego thing, despite having so many things similar, it makes the Falsilitator into something of an extrovert and Endell into an introvert.
Endell is on the lower end of the confidence scale but, due to similarities to the Falsilitator, it’s possible that one day they could tip to the way-too-high opposite end of this scale where they’re an arrogant douchebag. WHO KNOWS? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
Some other similarities (or specific similarities since I just said that they have “similar interests” above):
-Love of mythology, especially ghost stories.
-Enjoyment of being alone in their massive hives.
-Both are rather tall with similarly large and ridiculous horns.
-Prefer to keep things tidy.
-Both have similar lusii, and their lusii may or may not actually like them.
-Think that red is the greatest color in the world and think that it should be worn all the time.
-Have the same blood color which may be considered mysterious.
Contrasts:
-Falsilitator has no special ability to read things upside-down and does not have an upside-down hive.
-Endell has an interest in music and music-making, which the Falsilitator doesn’t really have.
-Endell prefers to be androgynous.
-All lusii seem to hate Falsilitator. Only Endell’s own lusus seems to not quite like them.
-Endell has no direct participation in the arts of romancy and is not a romancer.
Oh, and with the anger. Yes, Endell can get wrathful like Falsilitator when provoked. The chances of this happening are less likely since, unlike the Falsilitator, Endell isn’t a douche and doesn’t give other people a reason to provoke them, but the answer is still yes. Endell also has similar enhanced healing abilities and similar strength to the Falsilitator.
[edit] I JUST REMEMBERED THIS. But they also kind of avoid technology.
Thank you for the question, Ria!
Do Falsilitator or Fantomeus have any problems sleeping?
Yep!
Endell being largely based off of me does have problems sleeping. The problems are similar to mine in that sleep just doesn’t happen very often until I like pass out for over twelve hours like once every other week or so. Endell wanders around their massive hive, reading books and hunk rumps upside down and occasionally attempts to art or music. The night often becomes something lonely and isolated for them.
The Falsilitator, being based off of Jesse (who has sleep problems related to my own [SLEEPCEPTION] incidentally), also has problems sleeping. Like Endell and myself, he has problems getting to sleep and staying alseep. That’s not as bad though. Unlike us, he also has troubles with night terrors and just not getting the rest he needs even though he’s unconscious.
Thank you for the question!
